Diabetes Prevention Program

The Diabetes Prevention Program continues to expand in Erie, Niagara and Chautauqua Counties. The evidence-based program supports a 5-7% weight loss combined with 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week can result in a 58% chance of preventing Type 2 diabetes. The YMCA in Erie County continues to run the program at 4 diverse locations and offers a free membership to participants for 16 weeks.

The Niagara County Department of Health is now running the program at the CHS Neighborhood Health Center and the Community Health Center of Niagara as new locations and will continue to offer at community locations to serve all of Niagara County.

For Southern Tier patients in Chautauqua County the Chautauqua County Health Network will be running a program starting June 27th at the Lake Shore Health Center.
