The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), is promoting the standardization and certification of course work/training which enhances the knowledge and skills if individuals performing the SBIRT protocol in both general and behavioral healthcare settings. Many payers reimburse for SBIRT service provided by physicians (or an SBRT OASAS-certified health professional under the supervision of a physician).
This meeting is intended for providers, midlevels and nurses.

Population Health Collaborative is hosting a conference on Engaging Patients in Advance Care Planning. The conference will be held at Millennium Hotel in Buffalo on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 7:30 am – 12:30 pm.
Join Population Health Collaborative for the March 10th Annual DECIDE WNY Conference with keynote speaker BJ Miller, MD. Dr. BJ Miller is one of the pre-eminent speakers on palliative and end-of-life care. Drawing on his expertise as a physician, former Executive Director of Zen Hospice Project, and as a patient, he is an advocate for a healthcare system that minimizes unnecessary suffering and maximizes quality of life. Dr. Miller has lectured widely on all aspects of palliative care, as well as person-centered care, the therapeutic potential of aesthetics, and how to design for life.
Dr. Miller will be joined with roundtable facilitator Henry Davis from the Buffalo News and speakers Yvonne Askew, MSN Ed, RN-BC; Katie Grimm, MD; Chris Kerr, MD; Laurie Menzies, Esq; Deborah Waldrop, PhD, LMSW; and Charles Yates, MD

A Cultural Competency and Health Literacy Master Training Program will be offered through Suffolk Care Collaborative (a DSRIP PPS) to certify Master Trainers so that they can host training sessions in their regions. This is a master training course held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Suffolk Care Collaborative in Hauppauge, NY.
Interested parties must apply by January 5, 2018.

The Department of Health conducted a training session through Public Consulting group for provider staff members to share information on “Achieving Community Integration.” The training included an overview of the person-centered care foundations and planning as well as the LifeCourse framework. December 2 & 3, 2017, 9:00am – 4:30PM Erie County Department of Health, Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) is hosting a Training of the Trainers course for Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). SBIRT is an evidence-based practice used to identify, reduce, and prevent problematic use, abuse, and dependence on alcohol and illicit drugs. This event is intended for healthcare professionals who will be training their colleagues in medical offices and clinics. For more information regarding SBIRT visit this OASAS site. This is the ONLY SBIRT Training of the Trainers that ECDOH will be able to offer for a significant period of time.
- Identify patients who misuse alcohol or other drugs using a standardized screening protocol
- Describe the goals/processes of Brief Interventions(BI), Brief Negotiated Interviews (BNI), and Brief Treatments (BT).
Accreditation: The activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Northeast & Carribean Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NeC-ATTC).
